Timelight is a work of fiction, drawn from my own imagination. But writing a time travel novel opens the door to learning about events in history, along with the lives of individuals who lived in the past. While working on this book, I had a chance to read and reflect upon a number of important historical events, including the unjust incarceration of Japanese Americans during World War II. I am indebted to the many authors who have written on this subject, and especially to the work of Densho, the organization founded in Seattle to document the oral histories and testimonies of those who were incarcerated. Densho’s extensive archives helped me understand this dark period of the past and how such understanding can light a path to a better future. Their website is an excellent resource for further reading and learning: densho.org
